Man Of Steel #3 (November 1986)

"Face To Face With The Dark Knight!" John Byrne introduces a brand new dynamic between DC's top heroes. But to be honest, it was hinted of in the last few issues of "World's Finest" before the Crisis took place.
One Night (Knight?) In Gotham City...
Together for the first time.
Losing Superman when he's after you is no small trick.
When does Batman ever NOT do his homework?
I've always wondered about this. Does Batman really consider himself innocent, since the explosive is on him.
Not "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" This reminds me of one of the Joker's gags.
A great duo shot.
Byrne's entrances are nothing short of phenomenal.
Again I love the smugness as a crook empties his weapon. But what happens to the ricochets. Does anybody ever get hit?
Then find... a safe place.
The distraction worked.
Batman's portable crime lab.
But... but you're DEAD!!!
Both feel compassion, but differently.
Batman explains why his type of justice is needed in Gotham.

I might have called him "friend". A very nice touch.
